Strobing in Taman Metropolitan, Kepong

Last week Tony invited me to a photography outing in Taman Metropolitan Kepong. I didn’t know where the hell that was, but apparently it’s a favorite spot for kite-flying and family picnics. Luckily I managed to get there without getting lost on the way… enough time to get the afternoon sun. When I arrived, the others (Tony & wife, Kichi, Tini, Nabil, Nadia) were already there shooting.

Strobing in Bagan Lalang Beach

So now I have been bitten by the Strobist bug. Last weekend, me & the girls went to Bagan Lalang beach with a few friends for some fun off-camera lighting shoot. It was a good experience for me, as prior to this, I only had a 3rd party slave flash to play with. I’ve got another old Vivitar 283 flash and I think I’m gonna find some ways to trigger that thing. Maybe a cheapo Cactus radio trigger would do.

Finally, an SLR!

Me and my wife finally got what we had wanted to buy for the past 2+ years… an SLR camera! We bought a Nikon D40 kit last weekend… OK, so it’s not even a midrange offering (in fact, it’s the lowest range SLR) but it’s a step up from our previous camera, a Fuji FinePix S620Z prosumer digicam.

The camera has been instrumental in cultivating my interest in photography. It’s got full manual controls (aperture, shutter, ISO settings, zoom, etc) and it has helped me a lot in learning all the …
