Adding Bass Guitar to your Fruityloops Drum Track

3 January 2006 No Comment

So now you’ve got your own drum track. You can proceed to record guitars with it, but a band still needs a bassist. Even though a bassist of a band is often overlooked in the entertainment world, his/her roles are very important. Bassists provide the low frequency that ties the groove of the drums and the rythm of the guitars. A band without a guitarist sounds better compared to a band without a bassist, you know.

Open up the project that you created in the first tutorial. You should have the Step Sequencer and Browser windows open. Now, in the browser, go to Plugin Presets>Generators>FL Slayer and drag Bass Ebass into the sequencer.

Now click the button that I labelled as Keyboard Mode. The Keyboard will be visible and you will be able to insert the notes of the bass there. When you hover on the keyboard’s keys, you will see what note that particular button would play in the status bar. In terms of analogue bass guitars, the open E string would correspond to the note E3 in Fruityloop’s status bar.

Now let’s play a basic E – C – G – D bassline. Click on every 2 buttons and let it look like this:

The first 4 notes are played at E3, the second set C4, the third G3 and the last set of 4 notes are played at D4. Click the Play button and hear your future backing band auditioning for you!

Here’s the example file for you.
